Mariann Abrahamsen is a Senior Planner with the Strategic Planning, Environment and Research (SPEAR) team. She is currently assisting the SPEAR team with the ongoing Residential Planned-2 (RP-2) Future Land Use Study and the Unincorporated Hillsborough County Housing Element update. Prior to her career in planning, Mariann was a social worker in Bergen, Norway. This job opened her eyes to how impactful public transportation is for community health and well-being. Mariann has a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability from Arizona State University and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of South Florida. She began her planning career as a Transportation Planner for Osceola County, then worked as a Planner for the City of Temple Terrace and is now with the Planning Commission which she feels has been a great place to expand her long-range planning and project management experience.
In her spare time, Mariann likes to read and spend time outdoors. She enjoys being on the water either on her boat or exploring springs and rivers. She enjoys traveling to places with mountains, especially the southwest United States and the Pacific northwest. Her favorite vacation so far was a solo backpacking trip across Iceland.
