March 2020 – Our February Info BBQ (Brown Bag Quarterly) participants donned hard hats for a tour of the Midtown Tampa construction site. Robert Curren, the onsite Senior Superintendent and Christina Harden, Operations Manager for the master developer for Midtown Tampa, led the tour and spoke about the history of the project, current progress, and aims for the mixed-use space. Over the past 20 years, Bromley Companies has been acquiring land along Interstate 275 and Dale Mabry Highway to bring the size of the new district to 23 acres. The first development of its kind in Tampa, it will deliver 1.8 million square feet of retail, residential, Class A office space, entertainment, and hospitality to the surrounding neighborhood and entire Tampa Bay Region. Structures are going up quickly, with both parking decks, a 5-level garage above Whole Foods and a second 5-story deck already finished. Vertical steel installation on the 8-story Midtown One office is also underway. Attendees were taken to the top of one of the completed parking garages for a birds-eye view of construction progress.
When complete, Midtown will offer residents and visitors a walkable, urban neighborhood connecting Westshore and Downtown. With businesses like REI, Whole Foods, True Food Kitchen, Ponte Group Restaurant, F45 Training, and more already confirmed as first-to-market tenants, it is poised to become a favorite destination for shopping, dining, living, and working. The project is anticipated for completion in early 2021, just in time for Tampa to host Super Bowl LV a half mile down the road at Raymond James Stadium.
